ABOUT THE PRESENTATION: Black Film Archive celebrates the rich, abundant history of Black cinema. BFA is an evolving archive dedicated to making historically and culturally significant films made from 1898 to 1999 about Black people accessible through a streaming guide with cultural context. BFA emphasizes the importance of celebrating films that have often been forgotten or overlooked in mainstream film history. The BFA platform, which was launched after creator Maya Cade spent over a year compiling films from various streaming services, showcases over 250 Black films, organized by decade, including works by legends like Oscar Micheaux and Zora Neale Hurston. The archive provides links to where the films can be streamed, along with descriptions to give relevant historical context.
