About the event
ABOUT THE PRESENTATION: Regeneration: Black Cinema 1898–1971 explores the rich history of Black participation in US cinema from its beginnings to just beyond the civil rights movement. Inspired by and named after an independent all-Black-cast movie from 1923, Regeneration seeks to revive lost or forgotten films, filmmakers, and performers for a contemporary audience.
Regeneration is a temporary exhibition running into July 2023 at the Academy Museum. During her presentation, Kiara Tinch (Major Gift Officer) will immerse the Los Angeles Breakfast Club in the exhibition. Tinch will share the largely untold history of Black cinema both nationally and internationally. Experience these vibrant films first with Tinch who will encourage you to attend the exhibition in person at the Academy Museum.
You can learn more about Regeneration: Black Cinema 1898-1971 and the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures at their website, http://academymuseum.org.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Kiara Tinch is a proud graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park, and Columbia University. Taking her passion for performance into the workforce, Kiara worked in New York for almost a decade at esteemed performing arts spaces ranging from the historic Apollo Theater to the Public Theater. Upon moving to Los Angeles, Kiara continued her advocacy for the arts as a Major Gifts Officer for Center Theater Group (CTG) and most recently the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. She is thrilled to be a part of the early days of the museum and to shape what philanthropy can look like for the museum moving forward.
